European Colonization. Traveling trough Ghana and Mexico I have witnessed the slave trade history of Europe. It made me very much aware of being privileged as a white person and it raised a lot of questions for me, personally but also globally. In this documentary style of video I want to share these questions. In Ghana at the Cape Cost Castle I visited a slave trade trading post. In Mexico I stumbled apon an abandoned luxury Hacienda, Los Remedios, from a Polish and Jewish family. with little slave houses. In this way I saw where the slaves that had been transported and ended up, at the other side of the ocean. In Mexico I also visited The main spring festival for the Rarámuri; Semana Santa (Holy Week), a week-long celebration that mixes Christian and indigenous traditions, most notably the Tewerichic festival, occurring in the town of Norogachi around Easter time. This event focuses on the struggle between good and evil, includes traditional dances, music, prayers, and consumption of tesgüino (a sacred corn beer), and involves continuous processions around churches by two groups known as the "Pharisees" (allies of the devil) and the "captains and soldiers" (defenders of God).
In this festival I witnessed the power of European Christian influences.
These experiences made me aware of the question around responsibility of owning your historie to be able really connect and create understanding.
